About Robert Price
Disclaimer
This is still a work under construction, or maybe I should just say it's in "beta" now we're all Web 2.0.
Work
I work at the leading UK media company emap, where I'm Senior Developer at the Performance division of the company working on web and mobile solutions.
I've built various websites and a few mobile sites in my time. You may recognise a few of the following...
Whatson.com, an aggregated site for emap's radio content. It offers time shifted or live shows from various national and regional radio stations. It won the 2005 AOP Award for Launch of the year, and was nominated in 2004 (under it's previous guise as the Kiss100 Radio Player) for both an AOP and a DMA Award.
Aloud.com, an online ticket shop I built using Perl. This site won the 2005 AOP Award for Innovation for the mobile blog I built with the team for the Glastonbury Festival. It has also won the 2004 Revolution Award for the Best Property From A Media Owner and 2003 AOP Award for Best Design.
As well as these key sites, I also work across emap's music brands (Kiss 100, Kerrang, Smash Hits, Q, Mojo), and occasionally on emap's other products including direct to mobile device sites for New Woman and lads mag FHM.
Previously, I worked at emap's travel division, now part of Lastminute.com. Sites I worked on there included BargainHolidays.com and the UK's first online ferry booking site, Ferrybooker.com.
Personal
I run the website RobertPrice.co.uk (not to be confused with Welsh Builder's Mechants robert-price.co.uk).
The website has been various things over the years, but currently it's home to my blog where I rant and rave about various things. The majority of posts are normally related to web or mobile technologies though.
I'm into digital photography, and I'm lucky enough to own a Canon Digital SLR camera.
I really enjoy working with mobile phones, and I try to have a recent Nokia smartphone to play with various technologies. I sometimes write J2ME applications but currently my main interest is in moving web2.0 applications to mobiles. You may sometimes see me at Mobile Monday (London).
Cooking is another interest when I have the time, sometimes posting recipes I've created or followed to my blog.
In the past, before London Underground had an online journey planner, I wrote one called TubePlanner.com (now run by Studio24 Ltd) as a learning project for algorithms and mobile services using Perl.
